Charles F. Auter, age 55, of West Lebanon formerly a resident of Covington and vicinity, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the Community Hospital in Williamsport. He had been ill since Saturday when he was stricken at work at the General Motors Co., in Danville, Ill. Mr. Auter was born in Covington June 27, 1911, the son of Chester and Mary Smith Auter. He was married March 3, 1936 to Edith Bodine, who survives. He had been employed at General Motors for the past 18 years. He was a member of Local 579, U.A.W., C.I.O., and the Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: four sons, James L. of Frankfort, Don of Seattle, Wash., Charles Edwin with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Lloyd Thomas, and Jeff at home; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Krout of Veedersburg, Miss Peg Auter of Battle Ground, Mrs. Susan Linker of Lafayette and Judy at home; four grandchildren; four brothers, Frank and Russell Eugene, both of Covington, Bill of Milwaukee, Wis., and Tom, in Colorado; and three sisters, Mrs. Zelma Dudley of One Thousand Oaks, Calif., Mrs. Mary Norton of Kansas City, Mo., and Miss Desie Auter of Los Angeles, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son. The body is at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington where friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening, Nov. 30. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the Covington Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington.
